Hear From Dr. Tasch

Since he was a child, Dr. David Tasch of 38th Street Dental has enjoyed drawing, painting, and working with his hands. With his natural talents in mind, becoming a dentist seemed like a natural fit. He enjoys building relationships with patients and takes great pride in his ability to problem-solve complex dental issues.

A Closer Look Into His Career in Dentistry

Dr. Tasch's professional career began in 1992 at the #1 ranked dental school in the nation: The University of Texas Health and Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. In 1997, he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery and quickly returned to Austin, where he and Dr. Mike Meek — a friend and dental school colleague — began 38th Street Dental.

While Dr. Tasch has received advanced training in dental implantscosmetic dentistry, and advanced restorative care, the majority of the practice revolves around preventative care. His entire team abides by the Hippocratic Oath: "Do no harm." They practice ethical standards and always recommend preventative measures over restorative methods. This approach saves patients both time and money.

Is Dr. Tasch a “Cosmetic Dentist”?
In His Own Words

I really love all aspects of dentistry. People will often ask me if I am a "cosmetic dentist." My response is that the bulk of my practice is not centered around placing porcelain laminate veneers on people's front teeth. Instead, my focus tends to be on preserving and restoring function. Sometimes it is simply a single tooth, while at other times, it may involve reconstructing an entire dental arch. But in each and every case, I feel that all dentistry should be regarded as "cosmetic dentistry." So, I guess in that regard, I consider myself a "cosmetic dentist."

Dr. Tasch’s Long-Standing Love for Austin

Dr. Tasch has a long attachment to the city of Austin, TX, that goes back to his childhood. Back when Lamar Boulevard was the main north-south thoroughfare in Austin, he would spend a portion of his summer vacations visiting his grandparents. He is very fortunate to have childhood memories of Zephyr train rides in Zilker Park followed by refreshing swims in the enchanting emerald-blue waters of Barton Springs. In 1982, he was elated to learn that his family was relocating to Austin.

“My high school years passed quickly here in Austin, and soon, I was attending the University of Texas. In addition to earning a BA in Biology, I also had the wonderful fortune of meeting Sara, my wife, during my stay at UT.”
