Traditional Dentures
Traditional dentures, which simply rest on the gums and are removable, are an option when affordability is paramount. They feature artificial teeth set into a base made to look like natural gums. Traditional complete dentures are held in place by suction or with the help of a dental adhesive.
Customization is key to ensuring a snug, comfortable fit. Our dentists will make a precise impression of your mouth, capturing every detail to create a denture that stays reliably in place.
Unfortunately, one of the drawbacks of traditional complete dentures is that since they do not stimulate bone growth, they allow the jaw to shrink and change over time. To accommodate these changes, your denture will need to be adjusted, relined, or remade periodically.

Implant-Supported Dentures
In addition to restoring your smile, implant-supported dentures address many of the shortcomings that frustrate denture-wearers. Implant-supported dentures:
- Are securely attached to your jaw with dental implants, which are small titanium posts that are surgically placed into the jaw and prevent your denture from slipping out of position.
- Maintain your facial features by stimulating bone growth in your jaw. Unlike traditional dentures that accelerate bone loss, implants keep your jaw strong and maintain its original shape.
- Offer a stronger bite. Implant-supported dentures improve the strength of your bite compared to traditional dentures and allow you to eat many of the foods you've been missing, including crunchy vegetables and savory steaks.
Partial Dentures
Not everyone with missing teeth needs a full denture. 38th Street Dental has solutions for these patients, too.
In these cases, you have two main options: Partial dentures, which are typically held in place by clips that attach to a nearby tooth, and implant-supported crowns and dental bridges, which securely replace missing teeth and also maintain the strength of your jaw.
Whichever option you choose, Drs. Meek and Tasch will customize each replacement tooth to seamlessly blend in with your natural teeth so you can smile confidently.

Do You Have a Question?
Determine If You’re a Candidate For Dentures
Ideal candidates for dentures are adults who have experienced significant tooth loss but have sufficient healthy gum tissue and jawbone. If you are missing just one or two teeth, an implant-supported crown or a dental bridge may be a better solution for you. The number of teeth you are missing — or that need to be removed due to decay or other issues — will determine if full dentures or partial dentures are best.
Whether you are looking to replace a few missing teeth or wonder if you qualify for an implant-supported bridge or dentures, reach out to our dental office in Austin, TX, for a consultation. Our dentists will discuss your needs and determine which treatment makes the most sense for you based on your preferences, oral health history, budget, and more.
