Once again 38th Street Dental came through with flying colors. The plan was to get a temporary after tooth extraction in a few days but when Dr. Tasch found out that I was to attend a memorial service shortly he spent an hour putting a shorter term temporary then and there, without extra charge. That's above and beyond!

Solutions for Missing Teeth That Will Bring a Smile to Your Face

To ensure our patients have many options, 38th Street Dental in Austin, TX, offers a variety of solutions for missing teeth, from traditional dentures to the latest in implant-supported dentures.

Traditional Dentures

Traditional dentures, which simply rest on the gums and are removable, are an option when affordability is paramount.

They feature artificial teeth set into a base made to look like natural gums. Traditional full dentures are held in place by suction or with the help of a dental adhesive.

Customization is key to ensuring a snug, comfortable fit. Our dentists will make a precise impression of your mouth, capturing every detail to create a denture that stays reliably in place.

Unfortunately, one of the drawbacks of traditional dentures is that since they do not stimulate bone growth, they allow the jaw to shrink and change over time. To accommodate these changes, your denture will need to be adjusted, relined, or remade periodically.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-Supported Dentures

In addition to restoring your smile, implant-supported dentures address many of the shortcomings that frustrate denture-wearers. Implant-supported dentures:

  • Are securely attached to your jaw with dental implants, which are small titanium posts that are surgically placed into the jaw and prevent your denture from slipping out of position.
  • Maintain your facial features by stimulating bone growth in your jaw. Unlike traditional dentures that accelerate bone loss, implants keep your jaw strong and maintain its original shape.
  • Offer a stronger bite. Implant-supported dentures improve the strength of your bite compared to traditional dentures and allow you to eat many of the foods you've been missing, including crunchy vegetables and savory steaks.

The process of getting implant-supported dentures takes more time than traditional dentures and is more expensive, but patients often decide the health and lifestyle benefits are worth the investment. We invite you to take a closer look at dental implants:

Partial Dentures

Not everyone with missing teeth needs a full denture. 38th Street Dental has solutions for these patients, too.

In these cases, you have two main options: Partial dentures, which are typically held in place by clips that attach to a nearby tooth, and implant-supported crowns and dental bridges, which securely replace missing teeth and also maintain the strength of your jaw.

Whichever option you choose, Drs. Meek and Tasch will customize each replacement tooth to seamlessly blend in with your natural teeth so you can smile confidently.

Have you suffered bone atrophy? We Offer a Cutting-Edge Solution

Implant-supported dentures are the most lifelike solution for missing teeth, but if you’ve been missing teeth for a long time, your jaw may have already lost the bone density needed for a traditional implant-supported denture. While bone grafts can help overcome this obstacle, there is another solution that lets patients avoid the added time and expense of bone graft surgery: the All-on-4® implant method for dentures.
The All-on-4 method is a revolutionary option developed by Nobel Biocare for those who have experienced some bone atrophy after tooth loss. The unique benefit of the All-on-4 method is that it can often help these patients avoid the need for bone grafting. This is because the posterior implants are placed at angles to maximize contact with existing bone tissue and achieve the needed support. During a consultation, we can determine if this solution is right for you.

Treatment Timeline for Traditional Dentures

Each of our patients is unique, but in general, you can expect that your timeline will be similar to the one described here. If you are getting implant-supported dentures or bridges, your treatment timeline will be different.
Our Austin practice uses state-of-the-art materials, so your dentures will essentially appear identical to your natural teeth

Preliminary Treatment

Creating a healthy foundation for your dentures means starting with good oral health. As part of your assessment, our dentists will note any preparatory steps that will be needed before fitting you with dentures. This can include treating issues affecting the gums or performing tooth extractions.

Denture Design

So that your denture has a comfortable fit, the dentist will take a precise impression of your mouth.

Mockup Design

The dentist will create a mockup of your denture for you to try on. You and the dentist will collaborate on the look, feel, and fit, and note any adjustments that need to be made. Once you are satisfied with the result, our trusted local lab will create your denture out of high-quality dental materials, which takes about three weeks.

Adjustments

When your denture arrives from the lab, our Austin practice will schedule a fitting. The dentist will check the bite and make any modifications. It will take some time to get used to your denture. However, to ensure a comfortable fit, we are happy to make further adjustments to your denture in follow-up visits.
