What Does Fee-for-Service Mean?
In the past, dental offices were contractually obligated to work with certain insurance carriers and billed them directly. Like many providers, our team at 38th Street Dental became frustrated with that model and realized there's a better way to provide high-quality care. Now, our patients are charged directly for their care at the time of service and reimbursed later, which gives both the patient and provider greater flexibility and other benefits.

“Just a wonderful place. Dental care usually scares me but 38th Street Dental is a nice and friendly place with staff that works hard in being open and honest about dental care. They are upfront about the cost and try to work with you. I highly recommend them.” – Tomas Rodriguez, 5-Star Review
FAQ About Fee-for-Service Dentists
I have insurance. Can I use my benefits?
Yes! The only difference is that rather than bill your dental insurance company directly, our team will help you file for reimbursement instead. You will initially need to pay the full fee, and then you'll receive a check to offset some or all of the cost. You can trust us to handle all the paperwork for a simple, streamlined process.
What procedures can I get reimbursed for?
Whether a dental office was directly billing your insurer or you're filing insurance claims for reimbursement, your coverage only applies to procedures that will improve or protect your oral health. For example, dental crowns or routine cleanings. A purely cosmetic treatment, like porcelain veneers, will not be eligible.
I'm worried about covering out-of-pocket costs. Can you help?
You're not alone! This is a big concern for patients, whether they're at a traditional or fee-for-service office. We accept both CareCredit® and LendingClub®. These trusted lenders offer a range of flexible financing plans. Depending on your credit score, you can benefit from little or no interest, meaning this type of financing is often more cost-effective than using other credit cards.
What if I still can't afford my care?
Your health and satisfaction always come first. If cost is a concern, we'll discuss everything we can do to work with your budget. Sometimes, that means helping you apply for financing. In other cases, it could involve staging your dental services over several months or talking about some of our lower-cost treatment options. Worrying about cost should never keep you from visiting the dentist, and we're here to show you how a healthy, beautiful smile is accessible.
